As the Season of Kindness has been progressing it feels as though it has become a meditation on being kind to myself. Many of the pages have been healing processes which have left me feeling both relaxed and grateful.
My first tutorial as a Mess Maker came out on the Get Messy member’s site. It’s called ‘Knitted with love’ and is all about using yarn to create pattern and texture in your art journal. When I thought about the theme of kindness I was reminded of the wonderful feeling when someone pours their love into making something, whether it’s baking a cake or knitting a sweater. I wanted to capture some of that feeling in my art journal.
I wanted to bring some of the techniques from my tutorial into this piece that I made for my sister. It is also my first ever finished piece on canvas. I went totally wild with the yarn spirals!
The influence of the Season of Kindness crept into many of the pages in my daily art project, too:
“Thank you for all these things, visible and invisible” — This page was inspired by a prompt about all the things which support me. When I started writing my list I was reminded just how much is supporting me in life!
This page was inspired by Moriah Costa’s ‘s beautiful ‘Love letter to yourself’ tutorial. I’m normally rubbish at origami, but watching Moriah, I was finally able to do it! I ended up using torn origami papers for the background.
I finished yesterday’s daily art project during a wonderful #getmessyhangout with some awesome artist friends. I’m remembering that life is not a race and it’s okay to go at my own pace with things even if it means I won’t “catch up”! Ah…. what a relief!
