Rituals class – December

My solar spread for the December Rituals class was all about celebrating the past year. This month we were playing with a colour-blocking technique. After having been away from home with a teensy weensy art kit, I went crazy with paint, pens, stickers and collage papers! (The stickers are from the latest Flow book for paper lovers.)

I started with the colour blocks of paint and went on from there, adding washi tape, collage papers, stickers, and marks. At first I thought I had gone overboard with strong colour. But then I decided to trust what I was drawn to and committed to going totally overboard! I absolutely loved this technique and I’m sure I will be returning to it again.

Here are some close-ups:

My lunar page from December is all about the reality of the physical body. She doesn’t want to fit inside the different colour blocks. Instead she is sprawling across the whole page saying: “Here I am! Listen to me!”

I have included a fragment from one of my favourite Mary Oliver poems, Wild Geese:

‘You do not have to be good.
You do not have to walk on your knees
For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.
You only have to let the soft animal of your body
love what it loves.’

The envelope fragment is from a lovely package aI received a few months ago from the teacher of this wonderful class, Vanessa Oliver-Lloyd. It feels wonderful to include her in this last month of my Rituals journal!.

I am so grateful for this incredible journey. Words can’t express what a rich and deep exploration this has been. Vanessa has crafted such an incredible experience for us. I can only request that she continues to create such wonderful classes!!!

Even though I have come to the end of the calendar year, my Rituals journey is not quite complete. I still have to catch up with the pages from May which I skipped due to being away from home for most of the month. And there are two empty pages left at the end of my journal – perfect for the synthesis spreads in the final class. More to come!

Wishing you all happy holidays and a very happy new year!
