The Painted Diaries – November (part 2)

I have had a blast this month, combining the monochrome theme of The Painted Diaries with the Get Messy Season of Reflection. I have had the chance to celebrate the many blessings in my life whilst also reflecting in a more philosophical manner on such subjects as nature, dreaming, and time.

One of the biggest changes I’ve made in recent weeks is the shift to going to sleep earlier and waking up earlier. After years (a lifetime?) of staying up way too late “burning the midnight oil”, I’m amazed to find how much more rested I feel when I wake up in the morning and how much brighter my mood is in general. Who knew? (Probably lots of people, but not me!)

One of those questions I like to keep asking…

It was fun attempting a self-portrait. To help me identify the areas of light and shadow more easily, I took a selfie and then changed it to black and white. I normally feel I have to smile in photographs, but I felt okay not smiling for this one. I love how it came out!

Much reflecting happens over that first cup of tea in the morning!

Is nature a place? And is it a place “out there” or inside? It is certainly somewhere I do a great deal of reflecting and where things which seemed narrow are suddenly wide open to new possibilities.

On a technical note: I got so carried away with painting the trees, I found I had totally obscured the lettering! So I came in over the top with some pro white. Phew!

I was going to keep things simple but then I got into all the bricks and roof tiles and window frames, greatly inspired by the magical house drawing Caylee Grey made when we were all together for the Messy London meet-up this time last year!

Famous last words: “I’ll just make a quick drawing of a clock…”

Thanks for joining me for this look at my November Painted Diaries journal. I wonder what next month’s theme will be…?
