The Painted Diaries 2.0 – March (part 2)

I have been especially grateful to have this daily art practice during this time of change. Whatever may be going on each day, to sit and spend some time making these pages has been both calming and grounding.

I continued with the theme of finger painting to create the backgrounds. It feels so therapeutic to choose a few colours and smear them across the page with my fingers. Then I added collage or drawings on the top. I have fallen in love with my Posca paint pens all over again!

Hello! Hi!

Some of the beautiful collage elements on this page come from the lovely ephemera pack that came with issue 1 of Empower Arts magazine.

Art as prayer

Art as prayer.
Art as meditation.
Art as therapy.
Art as resource.
Art as nourishment.
Art as connection.
Art as blessing.

Who is this person inside?

What have you been waiting for?

The spiralling path

Stay at home

Let’s stay connected

Now is the time

This page is inspired by the poem ‘Now is the Time’ from Hafiz:

Now is the time to know
That all that you do is sacred.

Now, why not consider
A lasting truce with yourself and God.

Now is the time to understand
That all your ideas of right and wrong
Were just a child’s training wheels
To be laid aside
When you finally live
With veracity
And love.

Hafiz is a divine envoy
Whom the Beloved
Has written a holy message upon.

My dear, please tell me,
Why do you still
Throw sticks at your heart
And God?

What is it in that sweet voice inside
That incites you to fear?

Now is the time for the world to know
That every thought and action is sacred.

This is the time for you to compute the impossibility
That there is anything
But Grace.

Now is the season to know
That everything you do
Is sacred.

Where have you come from?

Ancient female energy

What I sang at midnight

‘I sang to you, exalted lady.
What I sang at midnight
let the singer echo at noon!’

Don’t be in a rush

This is a note to self at a time when it seems like I have more time to “fill” and yet as soon as I try to fill it, it doesn’t feel right. In this time of more time, I feel like I need to do less rather than more. This realisation came out of trying to plan all sorts of creative challenges for April and then realising that it made my head spin. As soon as I cleared the decks I felt calmer. Calmness feels like true north to my inner compass right now.

Closer to the earth

Thank you

Wishing you all a good April. Keep safe and well!
